Live/Wire - Diary - Eric & Chuck
Or Morecambe & Bury, for the band, this weekend!
The boys didn’t quite get to see the late, great comic’s statue on the seafront, due mainly to a seven & a half hour journey for Tink, Jon & Grant. Much cabin fever ensued after the six hour mark…. ‘Save the bacon’ award goes to Daz & ‘Safecracker’ Col (in Ed’s shoes again this weekend) for getting the AC/DC Show up and running. This allowed time for soundcheck and tea before an early start at just after eight. The debut Morecambe outing at the wonderful old train station building, was steamin’ from song one. (Groan!) The big booming sound came naturally from the size of the place. Champagne moment had to be one wag shouting out ‘Bring back Bon Scott!’, second song into Beano’s set, to which Beano replied, ‘If I could bring back Bon, I’d be rich!’
Many thanks to Ron & Glynis for their help & supplying the boys with all we asked for and Mick & his charming wife for trekking up to see the band, as well as the crowd for jamming the joint.
67 miles later and the luxury of spending both Friday & Saturday nights in the same Travelodge, meant a boozy evening ensued. Not that we condone this kind of behaviour you understand. Word association games, 75% proof brandy and Absolut, led to Grant became exceptionally ‘emotional’ and on falling over Daz’s bed for the SECOND time, was greeted with the immortal line from the General, ‘……..and Keegan takes a tumble in the penalty box!’…………….
The Met in Bury, another first, on Saturday. Band there ridiculously early, even Lorne, so the whole show was ready to rock by half past five. The band had the hilarious situation of trying to load in past the auditions for, ‘The Bury Talent Competition’………you can just imagine it, can’t you?? It’s a really nice set up there, great lights and sound and facilities. Same couldn’t be said about trying to find an off license! Four pubs in a half mile radius, but no offy anywhere!!
‘Rock and Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution’, got it’s first airing under Tink and the Champagne moment goes to Jon…….who leapt onto the drum riser at such a rate of knots he nearly followed through into Daz’s lap……thank god he caught onto the cymbal stand!!! Beano got given a ‘bottle of dog’ mid song by a punter, so he placed it on the drum riser……..when he returned to get it at the end of the song, it had disappeared – straight down Tink’s neck! Oh yeah……he’s settled in nicely alright.
Many thanks to Terry & Nathan for all your help, Kim for her hard work and the enthusiastic people Jon, Tink and I spoke to at the end.
Next up is our two night stand at the Springhead. Rock On!
