Live/Wire - News - Official Statement from Livewire

Tink (Rhythm Guitar) and his girlfriend Jane (Merchandise) were both involved in a car accident at around 3.30pm on Wednesday 21st July. Sadly, Jane died around 5pm that same day. Tink held on for 4 days but passed away at 11pm on Saturday 24th July. Both Tink and Jane were rendered unconscious at the scene of the accident, never regained consciousness and never suffered. As you must all imagine the rest of the band members Edd, Jon, Daz, Lorne and Pete, roadies Kev and Paul, sound engineer Mal and forum moderator Angie are absolutely devastated and are in a state of shock.

Tinks world was rocked three months ago when he received the terrible news that he had terminal cancer. He had to pull out of several shows when he became too weak from the radio therapy he was receiving to prolong his life. Tink requested that our friend Shaun (who had helped out Live/Wire in the past) help us again at that difficult time by deputising for him while he underwent his treatment. At several gigs Tink even asked him to be ready by the side of the stage just in case fatigue got the better of him and he cold not complete a full two and a half hour show… such was Tinks strength, drive and determination to keep playing.

Tink was living his life day by day and his goal at that time was to be fit and well enough for the ‘For Those About To Rock’ tour with Limehouse Lizzy in September. Jane did everything she could to help make that happen for him. That was his dream, he had worked harder than any one in Live/Wire to promote and produce this series of shows. At this incredibly difficult time it is so hard to imagine playing without our dear friends, but the last thing Tink or Jane would have wanted was for Live/Wire to lay down its guns and surrender. We have made the decision to move forward with the band because we know 100% that Tink and Jane would have wanted Live/Wire to continue. However, in the wake of this unimaginable tragedy none of us are in the right frame of mind to take on the insurmountable task of looking for a replacement for Tink, nor do we have the desire or motivation to do so. So we have again asked Shaun to continue to help Live/Wire during this terrible period because he was the person Tink turned to for cover after he was diagnosed with cancer three months ago.

We know that Tink and Jane would have been overwhelmed by all you support and kind words and for the time people have taken to express the profound effect both Tink and Jane had on everyone they met!

If you wish to share your memories of Tink and Jane with other members of the Live/Wire family please feel free to do so via the Live/Wire forum
